World Osteoporosis Day

October 15, 2015

“Love your bones”— 20th October is World Osteoporosis Day, raising awareness for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease. Events are held all over the world, organised by the International Osteoporosis Foundation in Switzerland. Find out how to get involved!

A brief history

World Osteoporosis Day was launched in 1995. Through the joint efforts of the United Kingdom’s National Osteoporosis Society and European Commission, WOD became an annual campaign run by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF). Each year is themed according to current issues.

“Love your bones”

This year’s campaign is “Love your bones”, focusing upon how to build strong bones throughout your life. Nutrition, lifestyle and genetic factors are featured on the WOD website, with brochures and toolkits available for download.
