Are you busy, overwhelmed or wound-up?
Do you feel anxious or stressed out?
Do you feel like you are constantly chasing symptoms that seem to have no link?
Your brain and nervous system control everything in your body, from your heart beat and digestion to how tight or lose your muscles are.
Your nervous system is made up of different parts and the part of your nervous system that controls everything that happens in your body that doesn’t require your conscious thought is called the Autonomic Nervous System. It’s broken into 2 parts- the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic.
These 2 parts normally act to balance each other. However, when the Sympathetic side is more dominant, you are in “Fight or Flight”. Your body responds as if it is running from a lion or a bear.
In this wound-up state of Sympathetic Dominance your body undergoes changes to prepare you to either fight the threat or escape. Your heart rate gets faster, there is increased blood flow to skeletal muscles but decreased blood flow to your internal organs. You will experience increased sweating and your blood pressure will go up as will your blood sugar levels. Your head will move forward your shoulders will round forward and shoulder muscles will tighten and your calf muscles and buttocks will tighten.
You may not be consciously aware of all these changes but you will experience the overall effect of Sympathetic Dominance as “Stress”.
What can be done about this?
Make an appointment to see your chiropractor. Mark is trained in the SD Protocol, designed to rectify Sympathetic Dominance and give you control of your health again.
It all comes back to this- Structural, emotional/mental and chemical health all affect each other. If one area is under stress than it will have run on effects into the others.
