Naturopathic Baseline Testing

August 12, 2024

Did you know that our Naturopath can order a range of functional health tests?

Two of these can be utilised as an in-depth and very comprehensive annual health check. Preventative health really comes into its own on a whole other level when functional testing can be utilised with a preventative focus for ageing well.

GI Map

GI Map is a comprehensive microbiome mapping test. As most of you know, gut health is the cornerstone of overall well-being. Our understanding of the gut—and specifically the microorganisms living within it—continues to grow, revealing the profound impact they have on our health.

GI Map is a stool test that you can complete at home. Results typically take about three weeks. Once received, our Naturopath will guide you through the findings and create a personalized plan tailored to your specific goals and symptoms.

GI Map assesses the levels of beneficial and pathogenic bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses that influence your health. It also evaluates conditions such as leaky gut, pancreatic function, and gut-related inflammation and immunity.

This test can benefit anyone with digestive issues, anxiety, mood-related problems, or concerns about estrogen-driven hormonal issues. GI Map looks at a vast array of parameters from which a vast array of information can be attained! The test can be done at any age.

OMX Test

Another test our Naturopath has been recommending is the OMX. This is a urine test and, again, one that you do at home. Results take roughly 3 weeks here as well.

This test studies the metabolites in our urine. The results help us to understand a lot about what’s going on in the body. Firstly, we see what is there, and what levels certain metabolites are at. If we find metabolites that shouldn’t be there, or should be but aren’t, we can then backtrack along certain pathways in the body to understand where things may be going awry. The OMX test looks at 5 main categories:

  • Metabolic Processing
  • Amino Acid & Protein Metabolism
  • Nutrition
  • Stress & Mood
  • Toxic Impacts and Microbial Metabolites

The beauty of doing these tests as a combined (or individual) annual test is that it allows you to have a very clear baseline that can be tracked year after year. They may seem costly at first, but consider how much value (and life!) you gain by preventing health problems down the track.

The OMX provides an incredible array of information as well. Everything from nutritional and vitamin status, to inflammation, levels of amino acids, detoxification, oxidative stress, and more. It can suit those who do not feel right despite blood tests coming back ‘normal’, those with chronic health issues, fatigue, post-viral ailments, mood disorders, and even unexplained health concerns.

To take advantage of these tests, you will need to book in with our Naturopath.

From here, a comprehensive health evaluation will be conducted, and then the tests can be ordered for you. The OMX test costs $430, and the GI Map costs $490.
