Herbal medicine has been around since the dawn of time. We have a profound amount of both traditional knowledge and scientific understanding of herbal medicines. Herbs can be a welcome addition to our days, especially the slightly bumpy and wobbly ones! Here are some beauties to help with emotional distress…

Skullcap

Those who know skullcap will not live without it! #iykyk 😉
“When making herbal tonics for clients, I’m often asked to ‘put a little bit of skullcap into the mix too please’!” says Tiina, our Naturopath

Skullcap is a beauty for emotional distress. Its neuroprotective helping to nourish and protect our brain and nervous system. It helps to physically calm nerve impulses, so you can imagine how soothing this could be for emotions and energetics. Its also a gently calming sedative herb and a well loved nervine helping to relax a wound up nervous system.

Oats

Oats love our nervous system. Think of a warm bowl of oats that your grandmother made you as a child on a chilly winter morning – that’s how oats make our nervous systems feel! I’ve also heard them be described as meditation in a bottle! Oats are known as a nervine tonic, helpful for those dealing with nervous exhaustion / fatigue, anxiety, insomnia or mild feelings of depression. As a herbal medicine, you can get oats green, oats seed or even milky oats, which all have slightly different healing properties.

Magnolia

That common and stunning large white flower you see around the neighbourhood is not just aesthetically pleasing, it’s also a gentle nervous system herb. Magnolia is known as an anxiolytic (anxiety buster), a relaxing nervine and more. It can be a very soothing balm for stress, irritability, insomnia, anxiety and nervousness. Next time you walk past a magnolia tree, stop and think of this – then take a moment, a deep breath, and walk on calmer than before 😉
Our Naturopaths can help with bespoke herbal tonics, made just for you! Many seek naturopathic help for wound up nervous systems and stress from our busy, hyperconnected lives. We’d love to help you feel better so visit us!
Herbs are medicines too. Please do research before embarking on one, especially if you are taking any medications as they can interact. We sell all of the above herbs as either teas, tinctures or both (and many more like this). Come and see us if you’d like to know more!
