Power Your Immune System with Mushrooms

Medicinal mushrooms are incredible for immune health. As the nights get colder, it is a perfect time to start adding them to your daily routine. Medicinal mushrooms, as the name suggests, are mushrooms with medicinal properties. They have been used for everything from colds to cancer.

There are many different types of medicinal mushrooms – shiitake, maitake, reishi, cordyceps, just to name a few. They all help to potently boost your immune health, but ingested together, pack an even more powerful immune enhancing punch.

You can add medicinal mushrooms to your diet, and this is a wonderful thing to do. The difference between this, and taking them as an ‘extract’ is in the potency of it. With an extract, they have taken the specific parts with the immune boosting aspects out of the mushroom – ie: they have ‘extracted’ these parts. When eating them as whole mushrooms in the diet, of course you get the immune boosting function, but in a much milder dose. You’d have to eat a ridiculously massive bowl of mushrooms in order to get the same ‘dose’ as you’d get from a couple of drops of an extract. Personally I am a huge fan of mushrooms, but I don’t think there’s ever going to be a day when I can eat that many mushrooms!

How to use Medicinal Mushrooms

At Saltuary, we stock these powerful and all natural beauties in various forms. We have them as powders for use as a warm drink, or to add to smoothies. We also have them as herbal medicine tinctures, of which you would normally take a few ml’s of per day. The powdered extracts are great to start adding into your daily routine – a beautiful way of ‘eating your medicine’ dear people! Taking the herbal medicine tinctures is wonderful when:

  • You are sick
  • If a lot of people around you are sick
  • If you have a weakened immune system
  • A tendency to catch every bug going around
  • If you simply want an unfair advantage in life and health! 🙂

Personally, I like to have a mix of all 3 in my life. I try to have some of the powdered extracts by way of a tea or smoothie daily, and I also like to take some herbal tincture a couple of times per week in the name of keeping myself and my family well. If any of us become sick, or have a lot of sick people around us, then we get the herbal tincture every single day! I add these beneficial mushrooms to my diet wherever I can too.
