Now that we’ve all recovered from our Christmas indulges…Easter awaits! In Australia, we tend to celebrate Easter with chocolate overload; particularly families with young children, who (understandably) adore the magic of the Easter bunny and chocolate egg hunts. At Saltuary, we firmly believe that you can get into the spirit of Easter AND eat well!

Get creative: prepare a healthy Easter basket
Does your child love making and decorating Easter baskets? We bet they do! Working hands-on with your kids is a great way to spend quality time, and nurtures their creativity. But instead of filling the basket with chocolate eggs, bunnies or bilbies, why not consider some healthy snacks?
Kids absolutely love Easter eggs, but creating some healthy snacks wil help to balance out those sugar laden meltdowns!
With this in mind, here are three simple (and yummy!) suggestions for Easter basket treats:
- Hard-boiled eggs. Instead chocolate eggs—why not eat real eggs! Full of omega-3 fatty acids, these beauties will do wonders for your child’s brain and heart health. Eggs are also packed with vitamins B, A and E, boosting growth and cell production.
- Carrots with hummus dip. The Easter bunny just loves carrots—so why not your kids! Carrot sticks with hummus dip is a delicious and healthy snack that’s full of antioxidants and fibre. Hummus is made from chickpeas, meaning it’s non-dairy, gluten-free and nut-free—ideal for children with allergies!
- Fresh fruit skewers. Your child will love fresh fruit skewers! This treat is great, as you can tailor it to your child’s preference—and the more colourful the arrangement, the better! Fresh fruit skewers have the sweetness factor, but without the artificial preservatives, colours or flavours found in processed fruit bars. Make it fun, by seeing who can include all the colours of the rainbow on theirs!
