What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, also known as Cosmetic Acupuncture, is a new introduction in the West, and offers a natural alternative to invasive cosmetic surgery, chemical (glycolic) peels and Botox.

Chinese Medicine doctors have been using points on the face for thousands of years to help combat signs of ageing in both men and women, and to help with skin conditions such as acne.

A 1996 report published in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with facial acupuncture and cosmetic acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment.

A course of cosmetic acupuncture is generally between 10-15 sessions. Sessions are usually twice a week at the beginning, and then once a week. Each individual will respond differently to the treatment depending on their age, diet, skin care regime and lifestyle. Following this, supportive treatments may be required to maintain facial rejuvenation depending on each individual person. At Saltuary, we recommend Juniper Organic Skin Care, and our Naturopath can aid with detox internally too. The infrared sauna is a wonderful accompaniment to healing skin concerns as well.

How does Cosmetic Acupuncture work?

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture works by stimulating neural and vascular areas on the facial skin and the muscles underneath. This is done through the application of incredible fine needles to key areas of the face, head, neck and ears. The needles are inserted with precision, and are left in for 20 minutes. This is a comfortable process, and one generally has no conscious feeling of the inserted needles. At the same time supportive treatment can be done elsewhere on the body to balance your entire constitution.

In a Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture treatment, each person’s overall health is assessed to eliminate any underlying causes of premature lines and signs of ageing. The philosophy of acupuncture recognises that the premature lines on the face represent internal disharmony within the body.

Conditions treated include:

  • Wrinkles and frown lines
  • Softening scars
  • Forehead furrows
  • Deep laughter lines
  • Sagging muscles
  • Crow’s feet
  • Drooping eye lids
  • Eye puffiness or bags
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Dark age spots
  • Facial skin rejuvenation
  • Oily, dry, dull skin complexion
  • Redness or blotchy skin tone
  • Facial acne and eczema
