Did you know that mushrooms are more than just a delicious addition to your meals? These amazing fungi have been used for centuries for their incredible healing properties and are considered a form of natural medicine. From boosting your immunity and energy levels to enhancing brain function, mushrooms offer a wide range of benefits for the body and mind. In fact, Louie Schwartzberg’s 2019 documentary “Fantastic Fungi” explores the fascinating world of the mycelium network and mushrooms, and their profound impact on our health and environment. At Saltuary, we stock a range of mushroom extracts, including those created by Life Cykel. To start you off, we are offering a 20% discount on all Life Cykel mushroom products for the month of July!

About Life Cykel

Life Cykel is an Australian company located in Byron Bay. Nearly a decade ago, the founders came up with a genius idea to collect coffee waste from restaurants and cafes and use it to grow delicious gourmet mushrooms. But that’s not all – once the waste is used, it becomes organic fertilizer. By creating a closed-loop ecosystem, Life Cykel aims to inspire new attitudes toward food production, waste products, and mushrooms.  Here are four mushroom products we stock and their benefits:

1. Reishi (for a calm spirit – ‘Zen state’)

The Reishi mushroom is a well-known medicinal mushroom used for centuries in China for its health benefits and is still respected today for its anti-aging properties. This distinctive red and woody mushroom grows on the sides of hardwood trees and symbolizes health, longevity, success, and divine power in Asian cultures. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) uses Reishi to support mental health, the heart, and the liver, promote vitality, improve endurance, and protect against age and illness.

2. Cordyceps (for energy – ‘AM Activation’)

Originally from the mountains of Tibet and Nepal, Cordyceps has been extensively used in traditional Asian cultures for centuries to help improve energy, appetite, stamina, libido, and endurance. Additionally, Cordyceps has been found to help reduce inflammation, provide antioxidant protection, and modulate the immune system, making it a popular supplement for overall health and wellness. The fungus is commercially cultivated to ensure consistency in quality and safety, making it readily available as a supplement. Most cordyceps are produced commercially, rather than wildcrafted. To learn why, here is a very short video about this absolutely incredible fungus.

3. Chaga (for strong immunity – ‘Longevity’)

Chaga mushrooms are a fungus that grows on trees like birch, alder, or spruce and is native to Eastern Europe and Russia. They contain polyphenolic, triterpenoid, and melanin compounds, which exhibit antioxidant benefits, and β-glucan polysaccharides that help modulate the immune system. This mushroom has been highly valued for its medicinal properties in Baltic countries for centuries and has the highest antioxidant capacity of any functional mushroom.

4. Lion’s Mane (for brain and memory function – ‘Flow state’)

Lion’s Mane Mushroom, widely used in TCM for many years, is a large, white fungus resembling a lion’s mane which may help promote new neuronal connections in the brain! Its polysaccharide compounds exhibit immune-stimulating properties, which potentially reduce inflammation. Incorporating Lion’s Mane into your diet can be a great way to boost your immune system and brain function, making it a good choice for those looking to enhance especially their brain health, and overall health too.  We like to add ours to our cooking (soups, dahls, etc), to our drinks (our morning coffee) and we also take them straight up out of the bottle! Incorporating mushrooms into our day is one way we enhance our daily vitality. With their versatility and accessibility, adding mushrooms to your diet has never been easier.
