Benefits of our Infrared Sauna

October 14, 2014

Sarah Wilson, author of ‘I Quit Sugar’, goes in feeling ‘thyroidy’ and comes out calm and enlivened.

At a conference I attended, a discussion pondered how chronic conditions can shift without a good sweat.

Me.. I LOVE it.. I find it relaxing, soothing, my skin feels amazing afterwards and my sore muscles are sore no more.

I’m talking about our Infrared Sauna.

Infrared saunas differ from traditional saunas in that they use a gentle form of light as opposed to water, giving the sauna experience without the usual humidity and steam. Infrared saunas help to generate 2 – 3 times the sweat of a traditional sauna. Hospitals use infrared heating to keep newborns warm and infrared lamps have been used for decades for muscle / joint aches and pains. Infrared light contains all the beneficial rays of sunlight without the harmful UV rays. It’s absolutely nothing like sun beds or tanning beds either.

During a session, your body is hard at work, producing sweat and pumping blood. For those used to sweating and ‘working’ their skin, one session can burn upwards of 600 calories! This will be less for sedentary people. A single session at Saltuary lasts 40 minutes.

Infrared saunas are great for maintaining cardiovascular health. Injured athletes, who are unable to play their sport whilst recovering, can use saunas to help maintain their cardiovascular health whilst waiting to get back to their sport.

Infrared saunas offer many other benefits including:

–          Detoxification

–          Weight loss

–          Promote healthy skin

–          May aid with chronic aches and pain

–          Helps reduce cellulite

–          Helps break down scars from surgery, eczema, etc. Even keloids may soften over time

Our body allows infrared heat to penetrate about 3 – 4cms under the skin heating our internal organs, rather than just the outer skin as traditional saunas do. This is why they are such a good workout for our bodies. When we get hot, our skin’s pores open up and perspire as our natural cooling process – ie we sweat! During sweating, our skin sheds old cells and cleanses itself of toxins, cholesterol, nicotine and even potentially carcinogenic heavy metals including zinc, lead, cadmium etc., and more. Sweating in the sauna increases your heart rate and helps to relax and dilate blood vessels too.

Infrared saunas can also help boost your immune system. We’ve had a lot of people who’ve used it to get over colds and flus.

Infrared saunas can help with pain by improving blood flow, enhancing circulation and bringing fresh nutrients and oxygen to the whole body. It may benefit in cases of arthritis, fibromyalgia and where general pain relief is needed.
