What is Exercise Physiology?

February 6, 2018

Mansi, our very talented and hugely loved Remedial Massage Therapist has recently added a Masters of Exercise Physiology to his already burgeoning list of accolades. What does this mean for you?

Exercise Physiology

Exercise physiology is a service that can be covered by Medicare, at least in part, with some private health funds also offering rebates. Anyone with the following chronic conditions should check with their Doctor or private health fund to see whether they are eligible to book in for exercise physiology. Of course, anyone can opt to have the sessions, without the need for a referral, by simply booking in as you would for a massage with Mansi.

  • Diabetes Type 1 and Type 2
  • Alzheimers
  • Parkinson’s
  • Insulin resistance
  • Acute brain injury
  • Hypertension
  • Obesity
  • Chronic pain
  • Respiratory conditions including COPD and asthma
  • Musculoskeletal injury, joint mobility, back problems
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Osteoporosis
  • Cancer
  • Some Mental Health Disorders including Depression

Even things like falls prevention strategies may be covered. Simply speak to your local GP.

Medicare can cover up to 5 sessions of exercise physiology at a maximum (current) value of $52 / session. The small additional gap charge will depend on the appointment type (initial or follow up).

What does a session involve? An initial consultation involves Mansi observing and assessing the body, going through your history and asking lots of questions! He will assess things like ROM (range of motion), mobility and strength. From here, he will design appropriate exercise interventions to get you moving better physically, which often will see a person improving mentally too.

Mansi is available now for this service. Simply call us to book in or to discuss any questions you may have. Book our massage therapy
